I have finally got my Laptop back to August 2016 status after it just failed to start – Boot. I had created a EaseUs Emergency Disc and Windows Disc, neither would bring the Machine to life.
A visit to a local computer shop said HARD drive failure – £100 est Bill. As the machine (details below) was only months old I declined the new HDD as the machine had 2 years waranty and consequently returned it to the manufacturer in Germany.
Machine returned – fault diagnosed software malfunction?
So up to date . Programs and files restored from (external hdd) – previously backed up by old fashioned cut and paste transfer
I then installed EaseUS – new emergency disk and PRE-OS. – Again emergency disk failed to boot on testing – but as per your recent article regarding bias (UEFI) in new machines and changing boot order, which I have yet to try. So might work. And presumably why my first try did not work.
The point I want to ask is about – PRE-os. This looked to be an easy way to restore Windows without having to enter the bias – giving a dual boot either windows or EaseUS Todo.
However it seems to causes boot failure – sometimes showing a splash screen with the choices as expected other times machine failed to boot at all – drive light blinked and went out. – Found to be worse on battery power.
Ease us does have a disable option. But often had to have numerous tries of restarting power button.
Tried Macrium Next having removed Ease us Todo – and the same effect, but not as bad as EaseUS – single Restart normally rectified on macruim but several attempts with Ease us.
Both considerably increased the overall boot time, but the actual choice option barely seconds before windows starting. – I did expect the time increase to some extent. Macrium does not seem to have a function to disable the PRE-OS once selected in the program.
I feel I would like to keep Macrium (at present removed ) because at least its rescue disc booted my machine without changing the bios.
I wonder what your thoughts might be on the PRE-os function as you have looked at both for your book and video, also where does the Boot program live and is it accesible – presumably the splash screen time must be changeable.
